Support Worker – Forensic Rehabilitation (Porirua)

About the role

IDEA Services is seeking dedicated Support Workers to assist individuals with intellectual disabilities who have been involved with the justice system. You will help them develop new skills, reduce offending behaviour and safely reintegrate into the community.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain a safe environment and monitor client behaviour during rostered day, evening and sleep‑over shifts.
• Provide positive behaviour support and respond calmly to challenging situations.
• Assist clients in daily activities, community outings and rehabilitation programmes.
• Document observations, incidents and progress using tablets or computers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver consistent, person‑centred care.

Required profile

• Previous experience in security, corrections, youth work, community leadership, trades, disability, addictions or mental health support is preferred.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure, demonstrate resilience and maintain professional boundaries.
• Physical capability to participate in activities and respond to safety concerns.
• Full NZ driver’s licence.

Required skills

• Comfortable using computers and tablets for daily documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
