Internal Communications Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Internal Communications Manager to join Westpac’s People and Communications team in New Zealand. Reporting to the Senior Manager Internal Communications & Channels, you will act as a trusted partner for multiple business units, shaping and delivering their internal communication strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own end‑to‑end communication strategies for a portfolio of business units, ensuring alignment with enterprise‑level objectives.
• Provide strategic counsel on narrative, sequencing, tone and audience impact, and ensure consistency with Westpac’s communications principles.
• Lead the creation and distribution of communications across various channels, including written content, video scripts and online platforms.
• Support incident communication management, handling high‑risk or sensitive messages with appropriate escalation and approvals.
• Drive internal communications for large‑scale transformation initiatives, including narrative development, leader communications, engagement strategies and adoption campaigns.

• Proven experience advising and influencing senior stakeholders, managing ambiguity and competing priorities.
• Strong stakeholder‑management skills with a track record of building trusted relationships.
• Experience leading internal communications for organisational change and transformation.
• Creative, innovative and able to manage high‑sensitivity communications.
• Tertiary qualification in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Business or equivalent experience.

• Advanced writing and editorial capability across multiple formats, including video scripts and online channels.
