Graduate Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist

About the role

CMW Geosciences, a geotechnical consultancy serving the construction, infrastructure and energy sectors, is hiring a graduate Geotechnical Engineer / Engineering Geologist for its South Auckland office, with a February 2027 commencement. Graduates are treated as industry professionals from day one, with training and induction followed by field work, guidance from senior technical staff and exposure to the full project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out manual field work and testing at sites, such as logging rock and soil boreholes, using hand augers and observing machine-excavated test pits
• Observe piling, retaining walls and ground improvement works on construction sites
• In the office, process logs and soil samples, write technical reports and assist project managers with deliverables
• Work on diverse projects, for example communicating design elements to contractors on a housing development or supporting piling supervision at a windfarm

Required profile

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geology or Earth Science
• Ability to complete strenuous fieldwork and to travel when required
• A full New Zealand driver's licence
• Desire to work outdoors with a love of rocks, soil and geology
