Engineering Technician

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Engineering Technician to join Downer’s New Plymouth Infrastructure Partnership team. In this hands‑on position you will support geotechnical investigations, construction quality‑assurance testing and the delivery of high‑quality infrastructure projects across New Plymouth.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical investigations, including soil and rock sampling.
• Perform field and laboratory testing in line with industry standards and produce accurate reports.
• Support and enhance ISO 9001 laboratory quality systems, maintain equipment and participate in audits.
• Assist in planning and coordinating site activities, labour and resources, interpreting drawings and specifications.
• Contribute to cost estimation, variation tracking and project reporting.
• Carry out asset inspections and update RAMM records.
• Complete all job‑related documentation, reporting and invoicing on time.
• Build strong relationships with internal teams, contractors and clients while promoting a zero‑harm safety culture.

Required profile

• Level 7 qualification or higher in Engineering (or equivalent recognised by Engineering New Zealand).
• Experience in consulting, contracting or laboratory environments.
• Detail‑oriented, practical and eager to develop technical capability.
• Ability to work safely on site and follow H&S policies.
