Communications Manager

About the role

Water New Zealand is seeking an experienced Communications Manager to lead and enhance its communications function. Working closely with the CEO and the senior leadership team, you will shape the organisation’s voice across the water sector in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver the annual communications strategy and plan.
• Manage the media plan, including proactive and reactive media relations and monitoring.
• Oversee production of key assets such as the Water Journal, Annual Review and podcasts.
• Guide communications activities across the organisation, ensuring consistent messaging.
• Provide strategic insights to senior leadership and contribute to the annual operating plan.

Required profile

• Minimum seven years’ experience in journalism, corporate or public‑sector communications.
• Proven ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels.
• Experience delivering clear guidance on complex, technical issues to senior stakeholders.
• Strong writing and idea‑generation capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and build relationships across the sector.
