Team Leader Contract Management – Transport

About the role

This senior position leads the Transport contract management team within the Professional & Technical Services Unit of Christchurch City Council. You will ensure high‑quality contract administration, on‑site supervision and technical advice across the Council’s transport capital works programme.

Key responsibilities

• Inspire, develop and empower a high‑performing technical team.
• Monitor and allocate workloads to maintain staff wellbeing and balance.
• Provide expert advice and mentorship on complex engineering projects.
• Drive best practice, collaboration and innovation across council and external partners.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the highest technical standards.
• Review tender documentation to anticipate on‑site construction issues.
• Build strong relationships with consultants, government agencies and stakeholders.
• Contribute to long‑term planning, policy development and strategic city‑shaping work.

Required profile

• Inclusive and confident leader who builds strong relationships and communicates with clarity.
• Relevant tertiary or postgraduate qualification.
• Minimum 10 years post‑graduate experience, including at least 3 years in a similar senior role within a large or complex organisation.
• Proven experience developing, mentoring and leading people.
• Strong capability in consultation and relationship management with internal and external stakeholders.
