Service Controller

About the role

Auckland One Rail is seeking a highly organised Service Controller to join its Service Delivery team. In this fast‑paced operational control position you will coordinate train services, crew and fleet movements and manage disruptions across Auckland’s passenger rail network. The role is based mainly at the Auckland One Rail Operations Centre in Ellerslie with occasional duties at the Maungawhau CBD site.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and coordinate daily train service operations and fleet movements across the suburban network.
• Work closely with KiwiRail Train Control, internal operational and communications teams to manage service disruptions, delays and cancellations.
• Allocate crews and adjust on‑the‑day rosters in response to operational changes.
• Maintain accurate operational reports and network performance data.
• Communicate real‑time operational changes to train crews, customer service teams and other stakeholders.
• Support disruption recovery, including alternative transport arrangements.
• Assist with incident reporting and operational investigations.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives for network operations.

Required profile

• Experience in transport, logistics, operations control or service coordination.
• Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a live operational environment.
• Self‑motivated and able to work autonomously.
• Customer‑focused mindset.
• Willingness to work a rotating 24/7 roster, including public holidays and weekends.
