Senior/Principal Data & Analytics Consultant

About the role

Acumen BI is seeking a senior‑level consultant to lead data and analytics advisory engagements for leading New Zealand organisations. The role blends hands‑on technical delivery with senior advisory, helping clients shape strategy, governance and operational models for their data assets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead discovery workshops to define business problems and assess impact before solution design.
• Develop organisation‑wide data and analytics standards, frameworks and assessments covering AI, security, FinOps and governance.
• Create data and analytics strategies and roadmaps aligned with client people, processes and governance.
• Guide client teams on ways of working, decision‑making and integration of AI tools into analytics workflows.
• Manage complex engagements end‑to‑end, providing creative solutions to difficult technical challenges.
• Mentor junior consultants and contribute to the growth of the practice.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and building data models, pipelines, platforms and dashboards.
• Strong consulting ability with a track record of earning client trust through delivery.
• Comfortable operating at senior advisory level, influencing senior organisational stakeholders.
• Ability to work autonomously, make sound judgement and know when to escalate.
• Experience leading and delivering complex data programmes.
