Manager, Investigations – North Region

About the role

The Manager, Investigations leads a high‑performing investigations team within Occupational Regulation, delivering robust oversight across multiple professional licensing schemes. Based in Auckland or Wellington, you will shape investigative practice at a national level and support regulatory excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of investigators across diverse regulatory regimes.
• Design, implement and continuously improve investigative systems, processes and frameworks.
• Ensure consistency with MBIE‑wide practice and alignment with relevant legislation.
• Drive transformational change, strengthen performance and foster a collaborative, high‑trust environment.
• Provide expert judgement on complex, sensitive regulatory matters.

Required profile

• Proven strategic and operational leadership experience in a medium to large organisation.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and manage high‑performing teams.
• Experience designing and delivering work programmes, tools and processes.
• Strong change leadership, communication and coaching capability.
• Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks such as the Building Act, Electricity Act and Immigration Advisers Licensing Act.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to synthesize complex information.
• Expertise in evidence‑based decision making and high‑quality written communication.
• Strong relationship‑building skills and knowledge of legal processes and statutory timeframes.
