Group Director Operations – MidCentral

About the role

The Group Director Operations – MidCentral will provide end‑to‑end clinical and operational leadership for the MidCentral District, including Palmerston North Hospital and specialist services. Reporting to senior regional leadership, this role drives an integrated, high‑performing health system that delivers safe, equitable care aligned with national priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead operational delivery of hospital and specialist services across the MidCentral District.
• Build strong partnerships with clinical leaders to improve service performance, integration and continuous improvement.
• Advise regional leadership and stakeholders on operational priorities, system performance and service delivery challenges.
• Manage significant financial, workforce and operational resources to ensure sustainable, efficient service delivery.
• Drive integration across hospital, primary, community and specialist services to enhance patient outcomes and access.
• Champion equitable, culturally safe and Te Tiriti‑aligned approaches across all services.

Required profile

• Extensive senior operational leadership experience in large, complex organisations, preferably within health or comparable public‑sector environments.
• Proven ability to lead through complexity, align priorities and sustain operational performance.
• Strategic mindset with a track record of delivering sustainable system improvements and fostering integrated, high‑performing services.
• Values‑driven leadership that supports a culture aligned with the New Zealand Health Charter.
