Medical Practitioner – University Health Centre

About the role

The University of Canterbury Health Centre is seeking an experienced Medical Practitioner to join a multidisciplinary team delivering high‑quality care to students, staff and visitors. This permanent, 0.8 FTE position works a 4‑day roster (30 hours per week) and offers a supportive environment focused on health equity and professional development.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary‑care services, including health education, emergency care, mental health, sexual health, dermatology, minor surgery and musculoskeletal medicine.
• Ensure optimal patient outcomes through accurate diagnosis, treatment and follow‑up.
• Contribute to the Health Centre’s strategic goals and community wellbeing initiatives.
• Maintain accurate records using the Medtech practice management system.

Required profile

• Minimum 4 years of relevant medical practice experience.
• RNZCGP Fellowship or equivalent qualification.
• Current professional indemnity insurance and annual practising certificate.
• Commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
• Knowledge of New Zealand health legislation (privacy, health & disability, consumer rights, health & safety).
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse team.
• Strong commitment to improving health equity.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Medtech (medical practice management system).
