Executive Director – Elimination of Family Violence & Sexual Violence

About the role

The Executive Director leads the Centre for the Prevention of Family Violence and Sexual Violence, providing strategic, analytical and operational support to the Executive Board. Reporting to the Board Chair and the Secretary for Justice, the role sits at the heart of a complex, whole‑of‑government system.

Key responsibilities

• Provide evidence‑based advice to the Board and Ministers on system priorities, investment and performance.
• Lead the Centre in delivering high‑quality strategy, analysis, performance reporting and secretariat support.
• Develop, implement and monitor system strategy, including the 25‑year national strategy Te Aorerekura.
• Support cross‑agency delivery by identifying risks, gaps and opportunities.
• Communicate Board decisions and expectations clearly across government agencies.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with government, sector partners and Māori stakeholders.
• Ensure the Board meets its governance and parliamentary accountability requirements.

Required profile

• Extensive experience providing strategic, evidence‑based advice at senior levels, including to Ministers and chief executives.
• Proven track record leading strategy, performance or investment in complex public‑sector environments.
• Strong system‑leadership capability with the ability to influence across organisational and sector boundaries.
• Experience working with government, communities and service providers to achieve collective outcomes.
• Deep understanding of public‑sector governance, accountability and investment frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and build organisational capability.
