Data Wrangler

About the role

Stats NZ is looking for a Data Wrangler to work at the front end of the data lifecycle. You will handle rich, complex datasets that inform national decision‑making and help turn raw data into trusted, usable insights.

Key responsibilities

• Gain hands‑on experience with large, high‑value datasets used for national policy.
• Build capability across the full data lifecycle – from ingestion and validation to transformation and preparation.
• Design and implement scalable data processes and workflows.
• Develop expertise in data quality, governance and metadata management.
• Collaborate with analysts, engineers and subject‑matter experts to ensure data is accessible and fit for purpose.

Required profile

• Early‑career or experienced data professional with a strong curiosity and willingness to learn.
• Demonstrated experience working with data in multiple formats.
• Attention to detail and a drive for high data quality.
• Collaborative mindset able to work with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Motivation to build a long‑term career in data within the public sector.
