About the role
Rocket Lab’s Neutron team is building a new medium‑lift, reusable launch vehicle. As an Avionics Design Engineer I you will own and develop mission‑critical avionics components from concept through production readiness for the Neutron launch vehicle.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and integration of avionics subsystems, acting as the primary point of contact for your area.
- Execute full‑lifecycle development of electronic components, including requirements gathering, prototyping, schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring‑up, mechanical integration, testing, and production implementation.
- Design and test digital, power, and analog sensing circuits that can withstand harsh aerospace environments.
- Develop and run test campaigns for computing modules and high‑voltage systems, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
- Create automation software in Python and C/C++ to interface with units‑under‑test, automated test equipment, and production ERP systems.
- Perform critical analyses such as FMECA, derating, root‑cause failure analysis, and risk assessments with mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally across Rocket Lab to meet ambitious program goals and review engineering changes, schematics, PCB designs, and test documentation.
Required profile
- Engineering degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Hands‑on experience with electronic component design and testing in demanding environments.
- Ability to work autonomously while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
