Audit Assistant Manager - Financial Services

About the role

KPMG is seeking an Audit Assistant Manager to join its Financial Services audit team in New Zealand. You will work with leading banks, insurance companies and KiwiSaver providers, delivering high‑quality audit services and providing assurance on the accuracy of their financial statements.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, execution and finalisation of audit assignments for manager or partner review.
• Produce work papers that clearly highlight issues and propose potential solutions.
• Manage client deliverables, attend meetings and maintain effective communication.
• Identify business and audit risks, assess the effectiveness of client processes and controls.
• Perform higher‑risk and non‑routine audit functions, including statutory audits, internal audits and special reports.
• Supervise and develop junior team members on a day‑to‑day basis.
• Ensure compliance with KPMG audit methodology, International Auditing Standards and GAAP.

Required profile

• Member of CAANZ, CPA Australia or an equivalent overseas professional accounting body.
• At least 3 years of practical audit experience in an audit firm.
• Strong ability to build and maintain excellent client relationships.
• Demonstrated technical proficiency across audit and related services.

Required skills

• Experience with US SOX accreditation or ICFR audits (advantageous).
• Knowledge of GAAP and International Auditing Standards.
• Technical competence in audit methodology and risk assessment.
