Survey Technician – Construction Surveying

About the role

We are seeking a Survey Technician to join our survey team in Cromwell. The role involves hands‑on construction surveying, setting‑out, and producing as‑built data to support safe and on‑time project delivery across multiple sites in Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out field surveying tasks including setting‑out, design checks, verification and collection of as‑built data.
• Calculate quantities, volumes and spatial data to aid accurate project reporting.
• Operate, maintain and assist with calibration of surveying equipment and machine‑control systems.
• Prepare topographical surveys, plans and moderately complex design modifications using surveying software.
• Support site teams by ensuring surveying work meets safety, quality and specification standards.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification or industry experience such as BE, BSurv, NZCE or a Diploma in engineering, surveying or related field.
• At least 1 year of surveying or construction experience, preferably site‑based.
• Current full Class 1 driver licence for travel between sites.
• Strong attention to detail, commitment to health, safety, environment and quality.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with Trimble or Leica surveying equipment.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D for plan preparation and spatial data processing.
