Outfitting Field Engineer

About the role

The Outfitting Field Engineer will lead the interior construction design for a variety of marine vessels, including ships, barges, tugs and dredges. Working within the Engineering department, you will translate customer specifications into detailed joiner layouts and ensure seamless integration with mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems.

Key responsibilities

• Design interior joiner work for cargo spaces, passenger areas, crew quarters, galleys and other vessel compartments.
• Interpret customer guidance documents and produce graphic layouts using AutoCAD.
• Review and comment on engineering drawings from customers, vendors and junior staff.
• Generate procurement documentation in SAGE MAS 500 for accurate purchasing.
• Analyze design changes for form, fit, function and positional relationships and communicate impacts.
• Coordinate with HVAC, plumbing and electrical teams to create installation details.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of drafting techniques and recommend cost‑saving strategies.
• Perform quality checks on work produced by other designers and provide supervisory guidance as needed.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
• Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a technical college.
• Seven to ten years of experience in marine interior design or related engineering fields.
• Ability to interpret technical specifications and apply engineering principles.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (preferred).
• SAGE MAS 500 procurement module.
• Technical drafting and detailed design documentation.
• Coordination of HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems within marine projects.
