Lead Apparel Designer (12‑month parental leave contract)

About the role

We are looking for a Lead Apparel Designer to steer the creative direction of our owned‑brand apparel range on a 12‑month parental‑leave contract. Reporting to the Head of Design, you will collaborate with buying, sourcing, planning, quality and marketing teams while leading a group of 6‑8 designers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and drive design direction and range strategy in partnership with buyers, based on brand strategy and customer insights.
• Lead, inspire and mentor the apparel design team, overseeing concept to fit development.
• Provide trend, colour, fabric and market insights to shape seasonal collections.
• Manage the full design process, ensuring timelines, commercial targets and brand values are met.
• Research emerging trends, technologies and competitor activity to keep the portfolio innovative.

Required profile

• Proven senior or lead design experience, preferably within a big‑box retailer or mass‑market brand.
• Demonstrated ability to guide and mentor a team of designers.
• Strong retail apparel design background with knowledge of garment construction, costing and manufacturing.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across cross‑functional teams.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize effectively.
