Junior Accountant – Auckland (Start April 2027)

About the role

KPMG is looking for a motivated Junior Accountant to join its Private Enterprise team in Auckland. This permanent, full‑time position starts in April 2027 and is designed for recent high‑school graduates or first‑year accounting students who will study toward a Chartered Accountant qualification while gaining hands‑on experience with small and medium‑sized businesses.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Private Enterprise compliance team with annual accounts, tax returns and monthly management work for smaller clients.
• Enter data, prepare spreadsheets, draft accounts and support GST, income tax and other indirect tax compliance.
• Respond to client queries and help maintain strong client relationships.
• Attend internal and external training sessions on professional accounting software.
• Provide basic financial advice and solutions to help client businesses thrive.
• Support team members with administrative tasks as needed.

Required profile

• Recent high‑school graduate or first‑year university student studying accounting (or CAANZ CA Fundamentals pathway).
• Enthusiastic about working with NZ small‑to‑medium enterprises.
• Willing to balance part‑time study with a 37.5‑hour work week.
• Committed to pursuing a Chartered Accountant qualification.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software.
• Competence in spreadsheet work.
