HR Adviser – Employment Relations

About the role

The University of Auckland is seeking an HR Adviser to support leaders in creating a positive workplace culture. You will work closely with an HR Manager and Senior HR Adviser, delivering practical advice on a wide range of people matters while fostering respect and continuous improvement across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely and practical HR guidance across a broad range of people matters.
• Partner with leaders to build confidence and capability in people management.
• Apply knowledge of New Zealand employment law and employment‑relations practice to support managers, including handling complex scenarios.
• Manage a varied portfolio of HR work while balancing competing priorities.
• Contribute ideas that support continuous improvement in HR policies, practices, and processes.
• Collaborate with the wider HR Advisory team while delivering on your own portfolio.

Required profile

• Solid grasp of New Zealand employment legislation.
• Experience in Employment Relations, including managing processes and complex cases.
• Thoughtful, pragmatic approach to providing advice.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with leaders and colleagues.

Required skills

• Knowledge of New Zealand employment law.
• Experience handling Employment Relations processes.
