About the role
Small Sprouts is seeking a dedicated Early Childhood Educator (Kaiako) to design and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate learning experiences for tamariki. You will work within the Te Whāriki framework to foster a warm, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key responsibilities
- Plan, implement, and evaluate learning experiences aligned with Te Whāriki.
- Build trusting relationships with children, whānau, and colleagues.
- Support children’s social and emotional wellbeing.
- Create safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environments.
- Document children’s learning clearly and thoughtfully.
Required profile
- Recognised ECE teaching qualification (or equivalent) and current NZ Teaching Council registration, or working towards these.
- Knowledge of Te Whāriki, child development, and best practice in early childhood education.
- Strong relationship‑building skills with a respectful, inclusive, and culturally responsive approach.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Commitment to integrating te reo Māori and tikanga Māori into daily practice.
- Ability to work collaboratively, take initiative, and contribute positively to centre culture.
- Understanding of health and safety, safeguarding, and wellbeing practices.
- Basic digital skills for documentation and centre administration.
- Current first aid certificate or willingness to obtain one.
