Data Architect – 12‑month Fixed‑Term

About the role

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is modernising New Zealand’s aviation regulatory framework. We are seeking an experienced Data Architect on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract to lead enterprise data architecture across the Business Transformation Programme. You will work at the intersection of business, architecture and delivery to ensure data is trusted, governed and leveraged for better decisions and regulatory outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Define and maintain current and future state enterprise data architecture.
• Establish data principles, standards and governance frameworks.
• Ensure data consistency, integration and fitness‑for‑purpose across systems and processes.
• Provide expert advice to executive leadership, governance forums and programme managers.
• Align workstreams, resolve data conflicts and prevent fragmentation.
• Enable data‑driven decision‑making, reporting and analytics capabilities.
• Ensure compliance with privacy, security and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with CAA Digital Architects to embed data architecture in delivery.
• Contribute to building data capability and maturity across the organisation.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading data architecture in large, complex transformation programmes.
• Ability to operate at enterprise and executive level and influence decisions.
• Strong stakeholder engagement with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Experience in public sector or regulated environments (desirable).
• Familiarity with modern data platforms and New Zealand Government data standards (desirable).
