Chef Assistant – Dark Sky Project

About the role

We are seeking a passionate Chef Assistant to join the Dark Sky Project team. Working under the guidance of the Head Chef, you will help prepare and produce high‑quality menu items that showcase our commitment to cultural values and sustainability.

Key responsibilities

• Support meal preparation and cooking during service periods.
• Maintain food safety and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen.
• Assist with ingredient preparation, dish assembly, and kitchen cleanliness.
• Provide friendly customer service and support front‑of‑house operations when needed.
• Promote sustainability practices and uphold the Tiaki Promise.
• Participate in cultural development activities and embrace Ngāi Tahu values.

Required profile

• Minimum one year experience in a professional kitchen.
• Commitment to manaakitanga and cultural learning.
• Physical stamina and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
