Certification Officer – Building Compliance

About the role

The Building team at Hamilton City Council is seeking a Certification Officer to help ensure that buildings across the city meet safety and legislative standards. Working closely with the Building Inspection team, you will assess documentation and support the issuance of Code Compliance Certificates and Compliance Schedules.

Key responsibilities

• Assess building consents and inspection information for Code Compliance Certificates and Compliance Schedules.
• Maintain compliance schedules in line with the Building Act 2004 and customer expectations.
• Review verification and certification documentation to ensure legislative compliance.
• Investigate and respond to complaints about alleged breaches of the Building Act.
• Maintain accurate records, including legal documents and photographic evidence.
• Support continuous improvement of processes and systems.
• Collaborate with colleagues and external stakeholders to resolve building‑related matters.
• Provide responsive, professional service to customers.
