Senior Aviation Engineer

About the role

GHD is seeking an experienced Senior Aviation Engineer to join its Aviation team in New Zealand. The role can be based in Auckland, Christchurch, or Hamilton and offers the chance to lead technical delivery on complex aviation and civil infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Provide senior technical input and leadership to the Aviation team, ensuring high‑quality project outcomes.
• Support, coach, and advise team members, contributing to mentoring and professional development.
• Help build GHD’s profile in the aviation sector and develop a sustainable work pipeline.
• Establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, industry networks, and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with internal teams and service lines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support business development activities, including identifying and pursuing strategic opportunities.
• Assist in identifying emerging markets, services, and opportunities to secure future work.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
• 10–15 years of experience in aviation/airport engineering consultancy.
• Proven experience leading technical delivery of aviation projects.
• Formal qualifications in a relevant engineering or science discipline.
• Strong commercial awareness and understanding of internal and external drivers.
• Well‑developed verbal and written communication skills.
• Collaborative, team‑focused approach with a willingness to share knowledge.
