Associate Water/Wastewater Process Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an Associate Water or Wastewater Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex water and wastewater projects for our clients in New Zealand. The role combines strong process‑engineering expertise with direct client interaction, ensuring innovative and sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead water or wastewater projects from feasibility and design through implementation and commissioning, managing scope, budget, timeline and resources.
• Act as the primary client contact, building trusted relationships and identifying new business opportunities.
• Develop engineering solutions that meet client objectives, regulatory requirements and industry standards, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
• Stay up‑to‑date with emerging technologies, industry trends and regulatory changes to continuously improve project outcomes.
• Mentor junior engineers and support team capability growth.

Required profile

• 12–15 years of experience in water or wastewater treatment with a focus on process design and modelling.
• Advanced degree in Chemical, Process, Wastewater, Civil, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline; professional accreditation and project‑management certification are a plus.
• Strong understanding of industry regulations and standards and an established client network in the water sector.
• Self‑driven, personable and client‑focused approach.

Required skills

• Process design for water and wastewater treatment.
• Wastewater process modelling using BioWin and/or SUMO.
• Use of industry‑standard engineering tools and software.
