Workshop Technician

About the role

Long Bay College is seeking an experienced Workshop Technician to join its Technology Faculty. You will support a range of workshop‑based subjects, including Wood Technology, Engineering and Design Technology, ensuring a safe and well‑stocked learning environment.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and organise storerooms, monitoring stock levels and ordering supplies.
• Prepare workshop materials as directed by the curriculum lead.
• Communicate professionally with external suppliers.
• Ensure health and safety compliance, advising staff of any concerns.
• Carry out day‑to‑day workshop and classroom maintenance according to schedule.
• Inspect, maintain and service workshop equipment such as lathes, milling machines, saws, sanders, drilling machines, welders, laser‑cutters and 3D printers.
• Maintain tools, including sharpening chisels and replacing blades.
• Refresh workshop spaces annually, e.g., replacing tabletops.

Required profile

• Excellent organisational abilities and proactive problem‑solving.
• Strong interpersonal skills, able to relate to teenagers and collaborate with staff.
• Ability to prioritise tasks and work independently.
• High attention to detail and a solid understanding of workshop health‑and‑safety requirements.
