Workshop Technician

About the role

We are looking for a motivated Workshop Technician to join Illumination and Optics, a leading event production company in New Zealand. You will ensure that all stage lighting, audio‑visual and related equipment is maintained, repaired and ready for live events.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, test and maintain lighting, audio‑visual and other event equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair faulty fixtures, cables, power distribution units and related hardware.
• Prepare and pack equipment for upcoming events, ensuring completeness and functionality.
• Keep the workshop clean, safe and organised, managing inventory and tool storage.
• Perform basic electrical tasks such as wiring, soldering and electrical testing in line with safety regulations.
• Assist with loading, unloading and driving trucks for event logistics.
• Provide on‑site technical support during event set‑up and breakdown.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in a workshop or event production environment, focusing on stage lighting and electrical systems.
• Valid driver’s licence (Class 1 preferred, Class 2 useful).
• Basic knowledge of electrical safety, wiring and testing.
• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work under pressure.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
