Teacher of the Deaf – Primary School (Full-time)

About the role

We are seeking a registered New Zealand classroom teacher to join the Linden Primary Provision as a Teacher of the Deaf. This permanent full‑time position supports small classes of 2–8 students, focusing on delivering the NZ curriculum and fostering achievement and wellbeing of our ākonga.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver and assess lessons in line with the New Zealand curriculum for deaf learners.
• Collaborate with a dedicated team of teachers, teacher aides, and specialists such as educational interpreters.
• Develop and implement strategies to raise student achievement and wellbeing.
• Participate in professional development, including learning NZSL and Deaf culture.
• Contribute to the school community and uphold inclusive practices.

Required profile

• Current registration as a classroom teacher in New Zealand.
• Experience teaching primary‑level students.
• Commitment to learning NZSL with full school support.
• Eligibility for a Ministry of Education Study Award for a Post‑Graduate Teacher of the Deaf qualification.
• Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.

Required skills

• New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) – willingness to develop proficiency.
