Te Reo Māori Teacher (Level 5)

About the role

A kaupapa Māori tertiary provider is recruiting a kaiako to deliver Level 5 te reo Māori programmes. The work takes place in a whānau-friendly workplace with a range of benefits.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver immersive Level 5 te reo Māori programmes that strengthen grammatical accuracy, language patterns and cultural understanding.
• Design learner-centred lessons responding to student needs and goals, using varied teaching methods and resources.
• Support student progression and retention with guidance, feedback, intervention strategies and academic support.
• Facilitate noho, wānanga and collaborative learning experiences.
• Assess, monitor and report on student progress, keeping accurate records and meeting moderation and NZQA standards.
• Contribute to the wānanga's kaupapa, including recruitment, community engagement, pōwhiri and staff initiatives.

Required profile

• Strong fluency in spoken and written te reo Māori, with a Level 5–7 qualification in te reo Māori, Mātauranga Māori or equivalent experience (including recognised endorsements).
• Adult tertiary teaching and assessment credentials, or willingness to obtain them within 12 months.
• Experience teaching te reo Māori in a full-immersion adult setting, or the ability to step into it.
• Knowledge of intermediate-to-advanced concepts such as grammar, metaphorical language, pūrākau, kōrero nehe, dialects and marae contexts.
• Excellent communication, organisation and relationship-building skills, with a student-centred approach.
• Full NZ driver licence and flexibility for noho, wānanga and field trips; willingness to engage in cultural activities is desirable.
