Systems Engineer

About the role

As a Systems Engineer at Datacom you will be at the forefront of delivering high‑quality IT services across New Zealand. You will work with a range of technologies to solve real‑world challenges for our clients, providing both Level 2 and Level 3 support and shaping the future of their technology environments.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver Level 2 and Level 3 support for Windows Server, networking, Azure, Microsoft 365 and security tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, including after‑hours support on a roster basis.
• Act as a trusted advisor to clients, ensuring professional and smooth support experiences.
• Evaluate business needs and contribute to strategic planning of IT systems.
• Maintain customer infrastructure, technical documentation and lifecycle updates.
• Advise on design and implementation of high‑quality technical solutions.
• Identify and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical abilities.
• Strong customer relationship and communication skills.
• Ability to manage budgets, schedules and performance requirements.
• Effective presentation skills for technical information at all levels.

Required skills

• Windows Server administration.
• Networking fundamentals.
• Microsoft Azure and Azure AD, AD Connect, ADFS, Microsoft Identity Manager.
• Microsoft 365 suite (Teams, Planner, Groups, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online).
• Collaboration and video‑conferencing tools (Teams, Poly, Neat, Zoom).
• Email security and archiving (Office 365 ATP/EOP, Datto, Avepoint).
• SCCM, Intune and modern management experience.
• Security configuration, OS/application patching and lifecycle management.
• Microsoft Server OS, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS.
