Strategic Workforce Planner / Consultant (6‑month contract)

About the role
This 6‑month contract supports a major transformation programme within a complex higher‑education environment in Auckland. The consultant will translate existing workforce data, current‑state role information and business inputs into a practical future workforce plan.
Key responsibilities
- Identify current roles impacted by the future‑state model and map them against future workforce requirements.
- Define future role architecture, including roles that will remain, evolve, emerge, or be phased out.
- Develop capability and competency frameworks for future roles.
- Build workforce transition pathways and initial options for priority groups.
- Provide input into position description reviews, role mapping and recruitment checkpoint processes.
- Produce a high‑level strategic workforce plan, workforce map, and transition decision frameworks.
Required profile
- Experienced in strategic workforce planning or organisational design within large, complex organisations.
- Comfortable working with ambiguous, partial, or imperfect data and turning it into clear recommendations.
- Strong analytical thinking, communication, and facilitation skills across HR, OD, project and senior stakeholder groups.
- Ability to ask insightful questions, challenge assumptions and bring clarity to workforce planning discussions.
