Software Engineer – Payments Technology

About the role

ANZ is looking for a Software Engineer to join its Payments Technology team in New Zealand. The role focuses on maintaining and enhancing the platforms that process domestic and cross‑border payments, ensuring they are reliable, secure and performant.

Key responsibilities

• Continuously improve processes, tools and strategies across infrastructure and system engineering.
• Design and develop Payments NZ solutions, applying sound engineering decisions.
• Respond to production incidents, perform root‑cause analysis and restore services.
• Provide primary and secondary after‑hours Level 2 support for incidents.
• Orchestrate and configure systems to safely implement changes.
• Deliver software in line with ANZ’s software development lifecycle.
• Manage pre‑production and production environments, including access provisioning and environment changes.
• Maintain up‑to‑date documentation for access management and environment controls.
• Support payments delivery activities across the full SDLC and collaborate with other teams for integration and end‑to‑end testing.

Required profile

• Experience in systems engineering or software development.
• Hands‑on experience with Java and SQL technologies.
• Familiarity with source‑code and artifact repositories such as GitHub, Bitbucket and Artifactory.
• Comfort navigating ambiguity in a fast‑moving environment.
• Awareness of computer security principles, including SSL.
• Interest in payments systems or a strong motivation to learn end‑to‑end payment processes.
