Senior Spacecraft Operations Ground Software Engineer

About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Spacecraft Operations Ground Software Engineer to develop and maintain critical ground software that supports spacecraft missions ranging from low Earth orbit to interplanetary journeys. Based in Auckland, you will work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure reliable command, data handling, and visualization for a variety of mission phases.

Key responsibilities

• Develop mission‑critical operations software for spacecraft command, data handling, automation, and visualization across LEO, re‑entry, interplanetary, and proximity operations.
• Build full‑stack web applications, including database schema design, back‑end services, front‑end interfaces, and machine‑to‑machine communications for spacecraft operations.
• Provide on‑call technical expertise during critical mission phases and participate in ground‑based test campaigns.
• Architect scalable software solutions that adapt to diverse and complex mission requirements.
• Lead technical initiatives such as facilitating scrum activities, conducting code reviews, approving software architectures, and mentoring junior engineers.

Required profile

• Senior‑level experience in spacecraft operations or related ground software development.
• Proven ability to design and deliver full‑stack applications for mission‑critical environments.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and capacity to work under pressure during live mission events.
