Senior Software Engineer - Spacecraft Operations

About the role

Rocket Lab is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop mission‑critical ground software that supports spacecraft ranging from low‑Earth orbit to interplanetary missions. You will work in Auckland on a dynamic team that builds full‑stack applications for command, data handling, automation and visualization of space operations.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement full‑stack web applications, including database schema, back‑end services, front‑end interfaces and machine‑to‑machine communications.
• Develop software for spacecraft command and data handling, automation, and visualisation across LEO, re‑entry, interplanetary and proximity operations.
• Provide on‑call technical expertise during live spacecraft operations and ground‑based test campaigns.
• Architect scalable, adaptable ground software systems to meet diverse mission requirements.
• Lead technical initiatives such as scrum facilitation, code reviews, architecture approvals and mentorship of junior engineers.
