Senior Project Accountant

About the role

The Senior Project Accountant will provide strategic financial leadership for a major transformation programme, ensuring robust financial management, accurate reporting, and commercially sound decision‑making throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and reporting for the programme.
• Partner with the programme team and senior stakeholders to develop business cases, funding strategies and governance reports.
• Maintain financial transparency and support informed decision‑making across multidisciplinary teams.
• Ensure compliance with NZ IFRS or public‑sector accounting standards.
• Contribute to investment decision processes and monitor programme financial performance.

Required profile

• 5+ years of project accounting experience in a large, complex organisation.
• Experience supporting infrastructure or capital‑intensive programmes.
• Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or equivalent preferred.
• Strong understanding of NZ IFRS or public‑sector accounting standards.
• Proven ability in budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• High attention to detail with strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Experience with large ERP or finance systems is advantageous.
• Collaborative approach and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
