Senior Payroll Advisor (Hybrid, Fixed-term)

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Payroll Advisor to join Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children in Wellington. The role is hybrid and fixed-term until July 2027, offering the chance to work on a large-scale payroll service that supports the Ministry’s mission to put children first.

Key responsibilities

• Verify and assure payroll data received through HR workflows.
• Process, reconcile and report on-cycle and off-cycle pay runs.
• Administer ACC, superannuation, deductions, final pays and over-payments.
• Collaborate with the Payroll Manager to resolve issues and negotiate solutions with managers and employees.
• Ensure a cohesive, efficient, and high-trust payroll administration service.

Required profile

• Team player able to manage priorities and support other payroll resources.
• Strong stakeholder rapport and ability to communicate complex payroll concepts clearly.
• Extensive payroll experience in a large organisation, including knowledge of relevant legislation.
• Understanding of cross-cultural practices, particularly tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures.

Required skills

• SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP) – proven operational experience.
