Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Waikato Milking Systems, a global designer and manufacturer of dairy technology and milking systems based in Hamilton, New Zealand, is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its New Product Development (NPD) team. You will work alongside engineers across multiple disciplines to create practical, reliable and manufacturable solutions used in dairy and industrial automation applications.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline
• 7+ years of experience designing and developing electromechanical products
• Experience taking products from concept through to production
• Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams

Required skills

• Proven experience using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
• Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, GD&T and tolerance analysis
• Injection-moulded plastics experience
• Advantageous: dairy farm management with suppliers, right material selection of plastics for FDA compliance, food-grade or hygienic design, product compliance and certification, FEA or engineering simulation tools, PDM or PLM systems, and experience in dairy technology, agricultural machinery, industrial automation or robotics
