Senior Design Engineer – Embedded Firmware & Product Development

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Design Engineer to lead the evolution and maintenance of our terminal products, focusing on embedded firmware design, implementation and testing. The role involves turning concepts into high‑quality, functional solutions while collaborating with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct requirements analysis and modelling for terminal products.
• Develop design specifications, implement embedded firmware solutions and perform testing.
• Debug and correct faulty designs.
• Contribute to technical discussions, write papers or studies and deliver presentations.
• Participate in formal design reviews and lead peer‑review processes where appropriate.
• Mentor junior staff members.

Required profile

• Relevant Bachelor, Postgraduate or equivalent NZQA‑approved qualification, or comparable experience.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial product development.
• Strong interest in technology and problem‑solving.
• Proven experience developing software within collaborative teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency in C or C++ programming.
• Python scripting experience (advantageous).
• Knowledge of Bluetooth® and Wi‑Fi protocols (highly desirable).
• Familiarity with radio technology (advantageous).
• Embedded firmware design, implementation and testing.
