Senior Commercial Lawyer – Business Law

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Commercial Lawyer to join our Business Law team. You will work closely with business owners, senior managers and investors, providing practical legal advice and handling important transactions for a range of privately‑held New Zealand companies.

Key responsibilities

• Manage client relationships and take ownership of commercial matters from start to finish.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, franchising agreements and M&A documentation.
• Provide business advisory services, including structuring, succession planning and investment arrangements.
• Mentor and develop junior team members.
• Leverage legal technology and AI tools to improve efficiency and client service.

Required profile

• Experienced commercial lawyer at senior associate or experienced associate level.
• Strong background in commercial contract work and business advisory, with some M&A exposure.
• Practical, responsive and commercially minded with a client‑focused approach.
• Efficient, organised and capable of running matters independently.
• Enjoys mentoring junior colleagues and using technology thoughtfully.
