Senior Business Analyst – Card Payments Platform

About the role

Join ANZ’s Cards Switch team and help drive the real‑time processing of millions of card transactions across New Zealand. You will work on a high‑availability platform that routes payments between merchants, ATMs, issuers, acquirers and card schemes, ensuring each transaction is validated, authorised and settled instantly.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather, analyse and document functional and non‑functional requirements for card transaction processing, including VisaNet, Mastercard and domestic protocols.
• Translate business needs into clear specifications and maintain use cases, process flows and data models.
• Work closely with delivery squads and vendors to shape solutions, verify technical feasibility and ensure compliance with card‑scheme mandates, PCI and operational risk standards.
• Support testing activities, production incident management and problem resolution, using basic SQL to investigate issues.
• Identify gaps, risks and improvement opportunities across systems, processes and data flows within an Agile, cross‑functional squad.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Business Analyst in a payments or financial services environment.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to communicate complex requirements to technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Experience working in 24/7, high‑availability environments and collaborating with engineers, testers and operational specialists.
• Ability to work flexibly across Wellington or Auckland and adapt to changing priorities.
