Senior and National Management Accountant – Permanent (Wellington)

About the role

The Department of Conservation (DOC) is hiring for two permanent positions – a Senior National Management Accountant and a National Management Accountant – to provide high‑quality financial support and advice across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and present regular financial performance reports and insights for senior leaders.
• Lead the production of Estimates documents, Baseline Updates and Treasury forecast updates.
• Contribute to long‑term financial forecasting, planning and scenario analysis.
• Provide strategic financial analysis, advice and business‑case development for major projects.
• Support the preparation of Cabinet papers, OIA responses and Select Committee material.
• Monitor financial policies, recommend improvements and ensure compliance with government frameworks.
• Design and implement advanced financial models to aid decision‑making.

Required profile

• Accounting qualification (e.g., CIMA, CA) relevant to the role.
• Strong grasp of accounting principles and practices.
• Excellent communication, planning and organisational abilities.
• Motivation to grow professionally within a government environment.
