Senior Accountant – Business Services & Tax (Public Practice)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our Business Services & Tax public practice team, managing a diverse portfolio of private clients ranging from SMEs to high‑net‑worth individuals.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients across financial statement preparation, income tax returns and GST compliance.
• Provide proactive tax planning and structuring advice for trusts, companies and SMEs.
• Review work prepared by junior staff, offering technical guidance and mentorship.
• Liaise directly with clients to understand their business and identify advisory opportunities.
• Oversee engagement budgets, work‑in‑progress and billing for your portfolio.
• Support partners on complex advisory matters such as restructures, succession planning and transactions.

Required profile

• CA/CPA (Chartered Accountant, CA ANZ) qualified or nearing completion.
• Experience in Business Services, Tax or Public Practice environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of New Zealand tax law, financial reporting and compliance obligations.
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and a portfolio with minimal oversight.
• Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
• Confident user of practice management and accounting software.
