Resource Teacher of the Deaf (Part‑time, Fixed‑term)

About the role
We are looking for an engaging, innovative Resource Teacher of the Deaf to join our team on a part‑time (0.6 FTE) fixed‑term basis from June to December 2026. The role is based at Titahi Bay North School and involves working across mainstream and specialist schools to support Deaf and hard‑of‑hearing (DHH) learners.
Key responsibilities
- Provide targeted instructional support to DHH students in both mainstream and specialist settings.
- Collaborate closely with whānau, school staff, and external specialists to promote student participation and success.
- Maintain accurate caseload records and documentation.
- Liaise with families to monitor progress and adjust learning plans.
- Travel between schools using a personal vehicle, with mileage reimbursed under agreed conditions.
Required profile
- Proven best practice experience working with Deaf children or mainstream students.
- Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or an experienced New Zealand‑registered teacher.
- Current, clean driver’s licence.
- Willingness to develop proficiency in New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) and listening‑spoken language practices for DHH learners.
- Recent practical experience with the early levels of the New Zealand Curriculum.
