R&D Firmware Engineer

About the role

Join Halter, a Kiwi start‑up developing world‑first technology for livestock management. As an R&D Firmware Engineer you will design, implement and ship modern C++ firmware that runs on our smart collars used by over 750 k animals.

Key responsibilities

• Write clean, modern C++ firmware for embedded devices.
• Test firmware in the paddock on our R&D farm and on commercial farms.
• Collaborate with hardware, data and product teams to integrate new features.
• Maintain code quality, documentation and automated tests.
• Travel regularly to the R&D farm in Morrinsville and other field sites.

Required profile

• Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related field.
• Passion for building and shipping embedded solutions.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Auckland and travel to field locations.
• Strong problem‑solving mindset and attention to detail.

Required skills

• C++ (modern C++11/14/17)
