Public Spaces Animal Management Officer

About the role

Kāpiti Coast District Council is looking for an experienced public spaces enthusiast to join its Public Spaces and Animal Management team. You will help keep beaches, parks and the town centre safe and enjoyable for the community, working alongside colleagues on responsible dog ownership, parking enforcement, freedom camping monitoring and other public activities.

Key responsibilities

• Support responsible dog ownership
• Patrol public spaces and carparks
• Support fair and friendly parking enforcement
• Monitor freedom camping and other public activities
• Help keep beaches, parks and the town centre safe and welcoming

Required profile

• Experience in a similar environment, ideally in the Public Space and Parking area
• Current and valid New Zealand driver's licence; a restricted licence may be considered
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand
• Preferred candidates will complete pre-employment checks, including drug and alcohol screening and police checks

Required skills

• Knowledge of relevant legislation and bylaws, and the ability to interpret and apply them in everyday contexts
• Dispute and conflict mediation skills
• Customer service and interpersonal skills, with experience dealing with conflict (compliance and enforcement experience desirable)
