Project & Portfolio Finance Specialist (Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch)

About the role

Join the newly created Project & Portfolio team at NZ Post, reporting to the Head of Portfolio Management. You will sit at the centre of how the organisation manages and delivers its change portfolio, defining and continuously improving financial processes that support effective project delivery and portfolio decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Lead portfolio financial reporting, analysis and insight delivery.
• Strengthen governance and embed best‑practice financial controls.
• Support forecasting, planning and scenario modelling.
• Partner with stakeholders to guide investment and trade‑off decisions.
• Contribute to business cases and benefits realisation.
• Coach teams to lift financial capability across projects and programmes.

Required profile

• Seasoned finance professional with strong experience in project or portfolio environments.
• Ability to influence, communicate and tell a clear story with numbers.
• Comfortable working in complex settings and engaging senior stakeholders.
• Curious, improvement‑focused and able to assess current ways of working and implement practical changes.
• Approachable style that builds trusted relationships at all levels.

Required skills

• Significant experience in project or portfolio financial management.
• Strong forecasting, reporting and financial analysis capability.
• Experience working in large, complex organisations.
• Ability to influence and engage senior stakeholders confidently.
• Skill translating financial data into clear, actionable insights.
• Passion for improving processes and building capability.
