Programme Communications Lead

About the role

The Programme Communications Lead will drive the communications and stakeholder engagement workstream for the Commissioning and Investment programme at Oranga Tamariki. This senior role offers autonomy, high visibility and the chance to influence outcomes for children, youth and families across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the end‑to‑end programme communications and stakeholder engagement strategy.
• Develop and deliver communications plans in a complex, evolving environment.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders, government agencies, iwi, community partners and other key stakeholders.
• Plan and facilitate regional engagement activities and hui nationwide.
• Translate complex information into clear, accessible and compelling communications.
• Provide strategic advice to programme leaders and influence senior‑level decision‑making.
• Identify and proactively manage communication and reputational risks.

Required profile

• 8+ years of senior communications and stakeholder engagement experience.
• Proven success leading communications for large‑scale programmes or organisational change initiatives.
• Strong experience engaging with iwi and Māori stakeholders, with a genuine understanding of tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti relationships.
• Confidence and credibility to influence senior executives and navigate competing stakeholder interests.
• Exceptional relationship‑building skills and the ability to operate as the sole lead within a programme environment.
