PR and Communications Specialist

About the role

Drumbeat is an AI‑native PR and communications platform helping high‑growth companies tell their stories. As a PR and Communications Specialist you will be the primary point of contact for our customers, turning the platform into real media coverage and providing the PR expertise they lack in‑house.

Key responsibilities

• Write pitches, press releases and customer‑facing content ready for distribution.
• Coach customers on how to craft newsworthy pitches and decide when to send.
• Review and improve customer narratives, releases and other content.
• Identify story opportunities that customers may miss and bring them forward.
• Pitch directly on behalf of customers, especially in the early stages of their engagement.
• Plan media releases and content calendars together with customers and their teams.
• Feed insights back into the product to help automate manual processes.

Required profile

• Proven media‑pitching experience with personal journalist relationships.
• Background as a practitioner in a PR agency or in‑house communications team, not just a manager.
• Experience placing stories in global media beyond New Zealand.
• Strong coaching instinct – able to teach founders to write effective pitches.
• Good judgement on story readiness and the ability to push back when needed.
• Comfort with ambiguity and a bias toward shipping results.
