Manager / Senior Manager – Tax Policy & Controversy

About the role

EY is seeking a Manager or Senior Manager to join its Tax Policy & Controversy team in Auckland. You will lead complex tax dispute resolutions, shape client tax governance strategies, and advise a diverse portfolio ranging from large corporates to high‑net‑worth individuals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and deliver advice on complex tax controversy matters, including dispute resolution, technical interpretation, and engagement with Inland Revenue.
• Design and oversee tax governance frameworks and control‑testing programmes, providing strategic insights to clients.
• Oversee preparation and review of high‑quality technical outputs such as submissions, ruling applications, and voluntary disclosures.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, regulators, and internal stakeholders, supporting business development initiatives.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in tax advisory with deep expertise in tax controversy, governance, and policy interpretation.
• Proven ability to lead complex engagements, manage risk, and provide strategic advice at Manager or Senior Manager level.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, comfortable engaging senior clients, regulators, and decision‑makers.
• Collaborative leadership style with a focus on coaching and developing team members.
